As if making a textile by hand is not work enough, this one requires serious mathematics. Also the type of focus that brings these artisans closer to monks. Very irritable monks who like their drink, but monks nonetheless. This pattern you see here is made on threads by deciding where to dye and where to leave them blank. You do this methodical dyeing to the threads that run horizontal as well as vertical. The way these two sets of threads coincide decides what pattern you see on the final cloth. A small mistake will be visible. We haven't found a single one in all these years.

Dyes are azo-free - the types that are not harmful to you OR the artisan. Their well-being is a priority after all.
