When the Mughal Emperors came to India in the early 17th Century, they nurtured a rich tradition of art. During a visit to Persia they saw the splendor of the art of paper mache, and brought the artisans back with them to India. This elite group of artists settled in the valley of Kashmir carrying on the tradition of miniature painting.Now Kashmir is a place that sees more city shut downs than regular days, but the artisans have continued to work. Thats where this lovely box comes from.
